Since many have undertaken to set in order a narrative concerning those matters which have been fulfilled among us, even as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having traced the course of all things accurately from the first, to write to you in order, most excellent Theophilus; that you might know the certainty concerning the things in which you were instructed.

5 Lub zim txwv Hes Los ua vaj kav Yus Das teb, muaj ib tug Leej Choj hu ua Ntxas Kas Lias, nws yog phiaj Leej Choj As Npias. Nws poj niam hu ua Es Lis Xas Npes, yog As Loos ib tug ntxhais xeeb ntxwv. 6 Nkawd ob niam txiv yog neeg ncaj nyob ntawm Tswv Ntuj xub ntiag. Nkawd ua raws nraim li Huab Tais cov lus qhia thiab cov cai tas huv si, tsis muaj ib qho xyeej. 7 Nkawd tsis muaj me nyuam li, vim Es Lis Xas Npes xeeb tub tsis tau, thiab nkawd hnub nyug kuj laus lawm.

There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the priestly division of Abijah. He had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. They were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord. But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they both were well advanced in years.

8 Muaj ib hnub, Ntxas Kas Lias tab tom leg Leej Choj txoj kab xwm nyob ntawm Tswv Ntuj xub ntiag, vim txog lub caij nws phiaj Leej Choj rov leg kab xwm. 9 Lawv ntaus txheeb raws li cov Leej Choj kev cai ua kam, ces Ntxas Kas Lias raug ua tus chaws mus hlawv xyab hauv Huab Tais Kem Ntshiab. 10 Lub caij hlawv xyab, tas tsoom pej xeem teev Ntuj nyob sab nraud.

Now while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his division according to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to enter into the temple of the Lord and burn incense. 10 The whole multitude of the people were praying outside at the hour of incense.

11 Huab Tais tus Tshiab tawm tuaj sawv ntsug nyob ntawm lub thaj xyab sab xis rau nws pom. 12 Ntxas Kas Lias pom dheev, nws ua siab nphau npog, nws ntshai kawg. 13 Tab sis tus Tshiab hais rau Ntxas Kas Lias tias “Ntxas Kas Lias, koj txhob ntshai, vim Ntuj mloog koj cov lus thov. Koj poj niam Es Lis Xas Npes yuav yug ib tug tub rau koj, koj yuav tis nws npe hu ua Zam. 14 Nws yuav ua kom koj kaj siab thiab zoo siab tas nrho. Thaum nws yug los, coob leej kuj yuav zoo siab. 15 Vim nws yuav yog ib tug loj nyob ntawm Huab Tais xub ntiag. Nws yuav tsis haus kua txiv cawv, tsis haus cawv ntsim. Txij nruab thiab los, Leej Ntuj Plig Ntshiab yuav nyob puv hauv nws. 16 Nws yuav coj coob leej tub His Xas Lais rov los rau Huab Tais, lawv tus Tswv Ntuj. 17 Nws yuav taug kev mus ntawm Huab Tais hauv ntej. Nws yuav tau Es Lias lub tswv yim thiab lub hwj huam, kom nws coj cov ua txiv lub siab rov los rau lawv cov me nyuam, coj cov neeg qig lus rov los taug cov neeg ncaj txoj kev thoob tsib. Nws yuav npaj ib haiv neeg qhib siab lug tos Huab Tais.

11 An angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense. 12 Zacharias was troubled when he saw him, and fear fell upon him. 13 But the angel said to him, “Don’t be afraid, Zacharias, because your request has been heard. Your wife, Elizabeth, will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. 14 You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth. 15 For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and he will drink no wine nor strong drink. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb. 16 He will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. 17 He will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to prepare a people prepared for the Lord.”

18 Ntxas Kas Lias hais rau tus Tshiab tias “Dab tsi yuav ua kom kuv paub tias yuav muaj tuaj li ntawd ? Vim kuv yog ib tug neeg laus, hos kuv poj niam kuj muaj hnub nyoog lawm.”

18 Zacharias said to the angel, “How can I be sure of this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.”

19 Tus Tshiab teb tias “Kuv yog Nkas Nplias. Kuv sawv nraim ntawm Tswv Ntuj xub ntiag. Nws xa kuv tuaj hais lus rau koj thiab fi tsab xov zoo no rau koj. 20 Vim koj tsis ntseeg kuv cov lus uas thaum txog sij hawm yuav tsheej xeeb, mas koj yuav nyob ntsiag to hais tsis tau lus mus txog hnub tej xwm ntawd tshwm sim tuaj.”

19 The angel answered him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God. I was sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news. 20 Behold,* you will be silent and not able to speak until the day that these things will happen, because you didn’t believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time.”

21 Tsoom pej xeem tos Ntxas Kas Lias, lawv xav tsis thoob tias vim li cas Ntxas Kas Lias thiaj nyob ntev hauv kem ntshiab. 22 Thaum nws tawm los, nws hais tsis tau lus rau lawv, ces lawv to taub tias nyob hauv kem ntshiab nws tau pom ib yam yees tawm tuaj. Ntxas Kas Lias piav tes rau lawv, nws hais tsis tau lus.
23 Thaum tas nws lub sij hawm leg kab xwm lawm, ces nws rov mus tsev. 24 Tsis ntev tom qab, Ntxas Kas Lias poj niam Es Lis Xas Npes xeeb tub. Es Lis Xas Npes tsiv nraim nyob hauv tsev tau tsib hlis. Nws hais tias 25 “Huab Tais ua qhov no rau kuv, txog caij nws dauv muag ntsia kuv, nws thau kuv txoj kev txaj muag ntawm zeej tsoom.”

21 The people were waiting for Zacharias, and they marveled that he delayed in the temple. 22 When he came out, he could not speak to them. They perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple. He continued making signs to them, and remained mute. 23 When the days of his service were fulfilled, he departed to his house. 24 After these days Elizabeth his wife conceived, and she hid herself five months, saying, 25 “Thus has the Lord done to me in the days in which he looked at me, to take away my reproach among men.”

26 Lub rau hli, Tswv Ntuj xa tus Tshiab Nkas Nplias mus cuag ib tug ntxhais hauv ib lub zos nyob Nkas Lis Lais. Lub zos ntawd hu ua Nas Xas Les. 27 Tus ntxhais ntawd, lawv muab qhaib rau ib tug txiv neej hu ua Yos Xes, xeem Das Vis. Hos tus ntxhais lub npe hu ua Mab Liab. 28 Tus Tshiab chaws mus hauv Mab Liab tsev, nws hais rau Mab Liab tias “Koj nyob kaj lug, tus tau txiaj ntsim puv siab ! Huab Tais nrog koj nyob.”

26 Now in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man whose name was Joseph, of David’s house. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 Having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, you highly favored one! The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women!”

29 Mab Liab hnov lo lus ntawd, nws lub siab nphau npog, nws xav hauv nruab siab tias lo lus hawm ntawd yog dab tsi. 30 Tus Tshiab hais rau Mab Liab tias “Mab Liab, koj tsis txhob ntshai. Tswv Ntuj saib koj ntxim Tswv Ntuj siab. 31 Zaum no, koj yuav xeeb tub, koj yuav yug ib tug tub, koj yuav tis nws npe hu ua Yes Xus. 32 Nws yuav yog ib tug loj, luag yuav hu nws ua tus Nyob Siab leej Tub. Huab Tais Tswv Ntuj yuav muab nws txiv Das Vis lub theej kiab rau nws. 33 Nws yuav ua vaj kav Yas Kos tsev neeg tiam dhau tiam. Nws txoj kev ua vaj yuav tsis muaj caij kawg.”

29 But when she saw him, she was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered what kind of salutation this might be. 30 The angel said to her, “Don’t be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 Behold, you will conceive in your womb and give birth to a son, and shall name him ‘Jesus.’ 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever. There will be no end to his Kingdom.”

34 Mab Liab hais rau tus Tshiab tias “Qhov ntawd yuav muaj tuaj zoo li cas, vim kuv tsis paub ib tug txiv neej.”

34 Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, seeing I am a virgin?”

35 Tus Tshiab teb rau Mab Liab tias “Leej Ntuj Plig Ntshiab yuav los nyob saum koj, tus Nyob Siab lub hwj huam yuav los roos koj. Li ntawd, tus ntshiab yug los yuav hu ua Tswv Ntuj Leej Tub. 36 Saib! Es Lis Xas Npes, tus uas txheeb koj, luag hu nws ua pog khoom, nws hnub nyoog laus lawm, tab sis nws kuj xeeb tub lawm thiab. Lub hlis no, nws xeeb tub tau rau hli lawm. Vim tias, tsis muaj ib yam uas Tswv Ntuj ua tsis tau.”

35 The angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore also the holy one who is born from you will be called the Son of God. 36 Behold, Elizabeth your relative also has conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. 37 For nothing spoken by God is impossible.”

38 Ces Mab Liab hais tias “Kuv yog Huab Tais tus ntxhais txib. Kuv xav kom muaj raws li koj hais.” Tus Tshiab thiaj tso Mab Liab tseg.

38 Mary said, “Behold, the servant of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word.”
Then the angel departed from her.

39 Tau ob peb hnub, ces Mab Liab sawv kev mus, nws rau siab ntso mus pem toj siab, rau ib lub nroog nyob xeev Yus Das. 40 Nws chaws mus hauv Ntxas Kas Lias tsev, nws foom lus nyob kaj lug rau Es Lis Xas Npes. 41 Thaum Es Lis Xas Npes hnov Mab Liab foom kev kaj lug, mas nws tus me nyuam dhia hauv nws plab, thiab Leej Ntuj Plig Ntshiab los nyob puv hauv Es Lis Xas Npes. 42 Ces Es Lis Xas Npes tsa suab hlo hais nrov nrov tias “Koj tau koob tau hmoov tshaj ib tsoom poj niam huv tib si, thiab lub txiv txi hauv koj lub cev tau koob tau hmoov. 43 Ua cas Ntuj thiaj pub kom kuv tus Huab Tais leej niam tuaj xyuas kuv ? 44 Koj saib, thaum kuv hnov dheev koj lub suab foom kev kaj lug nrov txog kuv pob ntseg, tus me nyuam hauv kuv plab dhia zoo siab. 45 Tus tau ntseeg tias cov lus Huab Tais hais rau nws yuav tsheej xeeb, mas nws txoj hmoov zoo!”

39 Mary arose in those days and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Judah, 40 and entered into the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 She called out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! 43 Why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 For behold, when the voice of your greeting came into my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy! 45 Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of the things which have been spoken to her from the Lord!”

46 Ces Mab Liab hais tias “Kuv tus plig cav txog Huab Tais lub hwj chim, 47 kuv lub tswv yim hom khaj nyob hauv Tswv Ntuj, tus Cawm kuv, 48 vim nws dauv muag ntsia nws tus ntxhais txib hauv txheej qis. Vim li ntawd, txij no mus, txhua tiam neeg yuav hais tias kuv txoj hmoov zoo, 49 vim tus Muaj Hwj Huam ua tej yam loj rau kuv, nws lub npe Ntshiab. 50 Nws lub siab hlub roos cov neeg hwm nws tiam dhau tiam. 51 Nws sab npab nthuav nws lub zog rau sawv daws pom. Cov neeg uas lub siab muab hlob, Huab Tais ua kom lawv tawg. 52 Huab Tais nchuav cov muaj hwj huam poob ntawm lawv lub theej kiab. Nws tsa cov neeg hauv txheej qis kom siab. 53 Nws pub tej yam zoo rau cov neeg tshaib noj seem noj so, hos nws ntiab cov neeg muaj rov qab mus tes qhuav. 54 Huab Tais pab nws tus tub txib His Xas Lais, vim nws nco ntsoov tias nws lub siab hlub neeg, 55 nws ua raws li nws tau tshaj rau peb cov yawg koob, nws ua zoo tas nrho rau Has Nplas Has thiab Has Nplas Has cov xeeb ntxwv mus ib txhiab ib txhis.”

46 Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord. 47 My spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior, 48 for he has looked at the humble state of his servant. For behold, from now on, all generations will call me blessed. 49 For he who is mighty has done great things for me. Holy is his name. 50 His mercy is for generations and generations on those who fear him. 51 He has shown strength with his arm. He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. 52 He has put down princes from their thrones, and has exalted the lowly. 53 He has filled the hungry with good things. He has sent the rich away empty. 54 He has given help to Israel, his servant, that he might remember mercy, 55 as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and his offspring forever.”

56 Mab Liab nrog Es Lis Xas Npes nyob peb lub hlis tej, ces nws rov mus tsev.

56 Mary stayed with her about three months, and then returned to her house.

57 Ntawm Es Lis Xas Npes, mas txog lub caij nws daws cev, nws yug tau ib tug tub. 58 Cov neeg koom zej koom zos thiab nws cov kwv tij neej tsa hnov tias Huab Tais hlub Es Lis Xas Npes loj kawg. Lawv nrog Es Lis Xas Npes zoo siab. 59 Thaum txog hnub yim, lawv tuaj ua lub cim txiav rau tus me nyuam. Lawv xav tis nws npe raws li nws txiv Ntxas Kas Lias lub npe. 60 Nws niam hais tias “Tsis yog. Tus me nyuam yuav hu ua Zam.”

57 Now the time that Elizabeth should give birth was fulfilled, and she gave birth to a son. 58 Her neighbors and her relatives heard that the Lord had magnified his mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her. 59 On the eighth day, they came to circumcise the child; and they would have called him Zacharias, after the name of his father. 60 His mother answered, “Not so; but he will be called John.”

61 Lawv hais rau leej niam tias “Tsis muaj ib tug hauv koj cov txheeb ze hu li ntawd.” 62 Ces lawv piav tes rau leej txiv saib nws xav kom lawv tis tus me nyuam npe li cas.

61 They said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who is called by this name.” 62 They made signs to his father, what he would have him called.

63 Leej txiv kom lawv muab ib daim txiag los, nws sau ntawv tias “Nws lub npe hu ua Zam.”

63 He asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, “His name is John.”

Sawv daws ceeb tas. 64 Tam sis ntawd, leej txiv lub ncauj qhib plho, tus nplaig muag nthas, nws hais tau lus, nws cav txog Tswv Ntuj. 65 Tsoom neeg nyob ze nkawd sawv daws tau ntshai kawg. Hos nyob pem toj siab hauv xeev Yus Das, sawv daws tham txog tej xwm ntawd. 66 Cov uas tau hnov luag tham txog tej xwm no, muab khaws cia rau nruab siab, lawv hais tias “Tus me nyuam ntawd yuav yog ib tug zoo li cas?” Huab Tais txhais tes yeej nrog nraim tus me nyuam ntawd tiag.

They all marveled. 64 His mouth was opened immediately and his tongue freed, and he spoke, blessing God. 65 Fear came on all who lived around them, and all these sayings were talked about throughout all the hill country of Judea. 66 All who heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, “What then will this child be?” The hand of the Lord was with him.

67 Ces Leej Ntuj Plig Ntshiab los nyob puv hauv tus me nyuam leej txiv Ntxas Kas Lias. Ntxas Kas Lias ua yaj saub hais tias 68 “His Xas Lais tus Huab Tais Tswv Ntuj nto koob meej, vim nws tuaj xyuas thiab tuaj npo nws haiv neeg. 69 Nws tsa ib txog kev cawm muaj zog rau peb nyob hauv nws tus tub txib Das Vis tsev neeg. 70 Nws ua raws li nws kom cov yaj saub ntshiab txheej thaud xub qhia tias 71 nws yuav cawm peb ntawm peb cov yeeb ncuab, thiab ntawm cov neeg ntxub peb txhais tes. 72 Nws tau hlub peb cov yawg koob. Nws nco ntsoov txog cov lus ntshiab nws nrog lawv cog, 73 nws nco ntsoov txog lo lus nws cog rau peb txiv Has Nplas Has tias : 74 nws yuav ua kom peb txhob ntshai, nws yuav npo peb ntawm peb cov yeeb ncuab txhais tes, 75 peb thiaj tau kev tsob hwb nws hauv txoj kev ntshiab thiab txoj kev ncaj nyob ntawm nws xub ntiag tas peb sid. 76 Hos koj, me tub, luag yuav hu koj ua Leej Nyob Siab tus yaj saub. Koj yuav mus tom Huab Tais hauv ntej, koj yuav npaj nws txoj kev. 77 Koj yuav qhia nws haiv neeg paub txoj kev cawm, uas tawm ntawm txoj kev zam txhaum los. 78 Peb tus Tswv Ntuj lub siab hlub mos nyoos, nws xa lub hnub saum txheej siab tuaj xyuas peb. 79 Nws kaj cov neeg zaum hauv qhov tsaus ntuj thiab cov nyob hauv kev tuag tus duab ntxoo. Nws hwj peb txhais taw mus taug txoj kev thaj yeeb.”

67 His father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying, 68 “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people; 69 and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David 70 (as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets who have been from of old), 71 salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us; 72 to show mercy toward our fathers, to remember his holy covenant, 73 the oath which he swore to Abraham our father, 74 to grant to us that we, being delivered out of the hand of our enemies, should serve him without fear, 75 in holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life. 76 And you, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways, 77 to give knowledge of salvation to his people by the remission of their sins, 78 because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the dawn from on high will visit us, 79 to shine on those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death; to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

80 Tus me nyuam hlob, nws lub tswv yim muaj zog zuj zus. Nws nyob hauv teb chaws suab puam mus txog hnub nws tawm los rau cov His Xas Lais pom.

80 The child was growing and becoming strong in spirit, and was in the desert until the day of his public appearance to Israel.
